Trauma Therapy
Be able to trust yourself and others again
Are Past Experiences Preventing You From Feeling Safe And Secure?
Do you find yourself fighting a constant battle of questioning and re-questioning yourself, your emotions, and your self-worth after feeling unheard, neglected, or even abused while growing up?
Are you caught in a never-ending cycle of emotional dysregulation, people-pleasing, and perfectionism because you’re afraid that if you’re not perfect and helpful, others will reject or abandon you?
You may struggle to maintain healthy relationships and set healthy boundaries because of past experiences that still weigh heavily on you. The pain you feel likely shapes how you trust, connect with, and respond to others today.
Or perhaps you’ve experienced a distressing event that was so sudden that it still feels fresh in your mind, as if it’s all still happening. And no matter how much time has passed, certain people, places, or sounds still trigger overwhelming emotions and physical reactions. As a result, maybe you’re considering seeing a trauma specialist.
Unresolved Trauma Lingers In The Body And Mind
Trauma can result from childhood emotional neglect or abuse, a single incident, or series of circumstances that causes emotional distress and dysregulation. And since trauma stems more from the nervous system’s response to what happened—rather than the actual event itself—its grip on your body and mind can feel overwhelming.
When trauma goes unresolved, it doesn’t just stay in the past—it sticks with you, and influences the way you feel and interact with the world now. Which is why therapy is so essential to your well-being if you’re experiencing the effects of trauma.
Whether you're experiencing acute trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from a single distressing event, or childhood trauma that stems from neglectful or abusive relationships when you were growing up, as your therapist, I aim to show you that healing is possible. No matter what you’re going through, I will guide you toward a path where you can feel empowered to process and release your trauma, helping you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Trauma Affects All Of Us
Practically everyone will go through something traumatic at some point in their lives. However, different people have different reactions to their experiences—a traumatic event that happens to a child will be processed differently than it would by an adult. So much of how we respond to trauma depends on various factors, like where we are in life and who we have for support.
Some people blame themselves for what happened by replaying the event continuously and wondering what they could have done differently. Others will try to avoid anything that reminds them of their trauma, or believe that they should just be strong enough to move forward by acting like it isn’t affecting them.
While you may think you’ve done enough to move past your trauma, in reality, you may have just learned to suppress it. It’s like trying to hold a beach ball underwater—it takes constant effort to keep it down, and when another ball gets thrown your way, it becomes nearly impossible to keep them both submerged.
Eventually, they rise to the surface, demanding to be dealt with. It’s the same with trauma—you can try to push it down, but the harder you push, the more powerful it grows.
You Are Not To Blame
Unresolved trauma often stems from generational patterns, toxic family dynamics, or life events that were too distressing to fully process at the time they occurred. When the body senses danger, it enters into “survival mode” in an attempt to keep you safe. The problem is that long lasting trauma can keep you stuck in this constant state of survival, causing you to feel mentally drained and chronically anxious.
While certain survival mechanisms may have been necessary in the past, they may be holding you back from moving forward. Recognizing this can be the first step to true healing. Trauma therapy with Marie Selleck will give you the opportunity to work through these patterns, helping you regulate your emotions, build self-compassion, set boundaries, and regain a sense of control in your life.

With The Power Of Therapy, Overcoming Trauma Is Possible
Whether you’re holding onto the impact of a single distressing event or endured complex trauma or childhood trauma that’s affected you for years, therapy with Marie Selleck will give you opportunities to process your memories in ways that feel safe. As your counselor, I aim to help you understand how unresolved trauma impacts your emotions, relationships, and overall well-being. With proper support and the right treatment plan, overcoming the hold that trauma has on you is within reach.
What To Expect In Trauma Therapy With Marie Selleck
As a trauma specialist, I offer a variety of evidence-based approaches to support your treatment process. Working through trauma with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can help you find the root cause of your overwhelming emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and challenge negative thought patterns.
Brainspotting is one of the most effective tools that I use for addressing trauma. It operates at a deep, neurological level which allows you to process and release stored emotional pain. It’s a somatic, body-based approach to therapy that uses eye positions to access the deep brain where sensory memories are stored, allowing these felt-senses to be processed and lessening symptoms of trauma overall.
I also offer childhood trauma therapy for those who experienced physical or emotional neglect or abuse as a child. Together, we will explore how early experiences have shaped your emotional responses and dysregulation, self-worth, and difficulties with trust, enabling you to regain confidence and trust in yourself.
Additionally, if you’re struggling with symptoms of PTSD, I provide Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)—a 12-session structured approach that helps reframe unhelpful beliefs that are tied to your trauma. No matter what your experience with trauma is, therapy with Marie Selleck will provide you with a nonjudgmental space where you can process what you’ve been through and work toward your recovery.
Some Concerns That You May Have About Trauma Therapy…
-
I am not a therapist who will stop at “how does that make you feel?” My approach to therapy is evidence-based, challenging you to see the patterns that trauma has created while acknowledging certain behaviors that you may not have noticed. We will then pair this with somatic techniques that address deep emotions..
During treatment, we will work together to develop strategies that work best for you. As long as you’re willing to show up and work through your uncomfortable feelings, I have no doubt that trauma therapy can bring positive change to your life.

It’s actually quite common for people with trauma to avoid talking about it because the feelings associated with it can be so overwhelming. But therapy isn’t about “just talking” about your painful memories—it’s about processing them safely.
I never want you to feel retraumatized in therapy, and we will always move at a pace that feels manageable to you. My goal is to teach you techniques that will help regulate your nervous system and ease feelings of overwhelm.

While the cost of therapy is a legitimate concern, it is important to understand that therapy is a long-term investment in your future. The work you do now, increases the health of the rest of your life and relationships. That being said, I do my best to offer options such as superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.
I like to make this process as smooth as possible because my aim isn’t to keep you in therapy forever. As your therapist, I want to help you heal from your trauma so that, eventually, you’ll have the strength to handle your challenges on your own.
